Had a break from social media and stuck?
You’re a business owner working by yourself or as the founder of a small business. Social media is likely one of the ways in which you connect with your audience, grow your reach, and sell your services.
BUT, even with a TONNE of material (you’ve done this before right!?), it's common to hit a wall and struggle with what to post. This morning, during a client session, we addressed this exact issue. My client had taken a break from social media and found herself overwhelmed with where to even start.
So I got us to start at the beginning and asked…
"What is your objective when you go to post on social media?" From there we opened up a pathway to clarity and actionable steps. Here in today’s blog i’. sharing them with you.
Understanding Your Objectives
Before jumping straight into content creation, it's really important to understand the core objectives behind why you are even posting. Generally, there are three primary goals:
1. Connect with Your Audience: Build relationships, engage with your followers, and create a community around your brand.
2. Grow Your Audience: Attract new followers and expand your reach.
3. Sell Your Services: Promote your products or services to drive sales.
I know you want to do all of the above! But its useful to decide if this upcoming period of time will be dedicated with one over another? Or are you doing a bit of everything in which case you need to tailor your content accordingly. In terms of what exactly you are selling at the moment (or will sell in the upcoming weeks), it’s really important to know that so you tailor your storytelling towards this product.
SO….
Step 1: Remind yourself of your current focus
Once you've identified your objectives, narrow down to what you're currently trying to achieve. For example, if your primary goal right now is to sell a specific service, your content should align with that objective. This focus will help streamline your ideas and make your posts more targeted and effective. This approach is a key aspect of strategic planning for small business growth.
Step 2: Find a way that works for you
For example , you find scheduling in advance hard but you would like to not have the pressure to post all the time. Try creating 4 posts and schedule them 1 a week for the next 4 weeks. That way you can post off the cuff in between if you feel it but you know that it wont be radio silence from your business if you dont find the time/ energy to do that.
You could even create a “content calendar frame” I like to call it! So you would start by mapping out content, assigning different categories to each day that you want to post - this way, you always know what type of content to create, making the process less overwhelming. And a category could be “Testimonial” or “proof” for example.
Step 3: Overcome mindset blocks
Mindset blocks can stem from so many things- some common ones I come across are fear of judgment, perfectionism, or simply feeling overwhelmed. Here are a few tips to overcome these blocks:
1. Start Small: Begin with simple posts and gradually increase complexity as you gain confidence.
2. Imperfectly perfect! Social media is about authenticity, not perfection. Your audience will appreciate your genuine efforts.
3. Set Realistic Goals: Aim for consistency over quantity. It's better to post regularly than to overwhelm yourself with a demanding schedule.
So breaking through social media blocks can often be all about clarity and strategy. By defining your objectives, narrowing your focus, and creating a structured plan, or even REJECTING PLANNING! THAT’S OK! iNSTEAD YOU CAN THINK:
“where am i going and whats the one post that can take me closer to it!”, And just get that one post out there.
