Time blocking

If you have followed me on social media for a while then you will know that I am a big fan of Time Blocking. I realised that I am yet to write a block on exactly my interpretation of what time blocking is and why time blocking is good for founders. SO if you want to know how you can find more time, read on!

Time blocking is a productivity technique (but don't let that wording put you off!) ,that involves dividing your day into blocks of time, each dedicated to a specific task or activity. By scheduling your day in this way, you can prioritise your most important tasks and ensure that you have enough time to complete them.

As a business owner, time blocking can be a valuable tool to help you manage your time effectively and increase your productivity. It can really make the difference when it comes to taking action and moving your business forward in a way that you want to. I go through this exercise with the businesses I work with and we customise it for the individual, but Ive shared below some steps you can start to think about to implement time blocking in your business:

  1. Identify your most important tasks: Start by making a list of the tasks that are most important for your business. These might include things like specific marketing tasks, sales contacts or delivery of services

  2. Determine how much time you need for each task: Once you have a list of your most important tasks, estimate how much time you need to complete each one. Be realistic about how long each task will take, and be sure to build in some extra time for unexpected interruptions or delays.

  3. Block out your schedule: Once you have an idea of how much time you need for each task, block out your schedule accordingly. You might choose to work on one task for a set period of time each day, or you might alternate between tasks throughout the day. Remember the principle of task batching though (grouping like tasks together).

  4. Stick to your schedule: The key to making time blocking work is to stick to your schedule as much as possible. HOWEVER - we are not reobots is what i always say! And sometimes we just aint feeling it! so my next point is the opposite to this one...

  5. Flex when you need to! things change, including our mood - so leave a bit of wiggle room and remember its just a frame
