Small steps to achieve big things - a supply chain teams view
Last week I ran a half day workshop for one of L'Oréal's e-supply chain teams.
It was all about personal empowerment, well-being and being proactive- for the benefit of both ourselves and how that then links into how effective we can be.
The workshop was designed to help the team take some time up for themselves after a busy and demanding quarter four
At the end of the day I asked everyone to give me their one biggest takeaway from the day... My absolute FAVOURITE one was this:
"Small steps to achieve big things"
YES! that's the theme that ran through the day and she encapsulated it so brilliantly. This is the key to personal and professional growth
And while it seems obvious and should be intuitive, it often gets lost in the hustle of meeting deadlines and managing crises. (Hello supply chain crew, I hear you!)
The Power of Incremental Progress
The concept of taking small steps to achieve a bigger outcomes is not new. It's about breaking down overwhelming goals into manageable tasks, making progress less daunting and more achievable. You don't need to know it all at the beginning - take a small step towards where you're trying to get to.
What do I mean by that? Well, if you need to create a segmentation model for your customers or suppliers?
Step 1 - why are we doing this? Answer that (real life example from my past!). then you can figure out the next step. Likely something like "engage other stakeholders".
Setting Boundaries and Forming Habits
A significant part of the workshop was dedicated to setting healthy boundaries and forming habits that contribute to personal wellbeing. Participants learned the importance of saying no, prioritising tasks, and dedicating time to activities that recharge their batteries. These small steps are crucial in maintaining a balance, preventing burnout, and ensuring sustained productivity and happiness.
The Circle of Influence and Control
And all of this is entwined and interlinked with the concept of the Circle of Influence and Control. Understanding what you can change and what they cannot.
Simply by being aware of this - you can invest your energy wisely, focusing on actionable steps that lead to significant changes in their work and personal lives.
Implementing Small Steps for Big Wins
The mantra "Small steps to achieve big things" is not just a post-workshop reflection; it's a call to action.
It's about making incremental changes in daily routines, setting achievable goals, and celebrating small victories.
These steps, though small, build resilience, progress and lead to remarkable achievements over time.
