How can I best use a noticeboard at work?

I know I know, this should be obvious right? To use a noticeboard you stick things on it, that's it! Hmm, well … I believe that a well used noticeboard can be invaluable both at home and at work, and To make sure it is "well used" ; here are a few Do's and Don'ts.

DO be clear on what your noticeboard is for (and what it is not for!)

DO only put things on your noticeboard if you need access to it on an ongoing basis OR in the short to medium term eg - letter for that doctors appointment in a month's time that you know you will need to take with you when you go, or next week's milk rota in the office, don't hide it away on a spreadsheet in a folder no one ever looks like - perfect for popping on a noticeboard!

DO regularly look at everything on the noticeboard and bin anything you no longer need or FILE away paper you need to keep but don't need easy access to anymore

DO Make sure your noticeboard is positioned where everyone in the househould or office who needs access to it can easily see it

DO use it to keep a whiteboard where you can write a list on an ongoing basis of anything you have run out of then check it before your next food shop

DON'T be the only person to know about (and therefore use!) the noticeboard - its purpose is for info sharing (and a bit of easy access short term document storage!). So tell your team/ family/housemates what its for and all use it - it can be useful!

DON'T Fill it with kids drawings! If you must then have a section aside just for this and have a strict one in one out policy!

DON'T put things on it because you don't have anywhere else to put them - bad idea!
