5 Practical Tech Tips Every Solo Business Owner Needs
Running a solo business, especially in the creative field, is no small feat.
You're the CEO, the marketing department, the creative director, the cuppa maker :).
So anything we can do to just make it all run a little bit more smoothly so you can you manage your business better, serve your clients, and, most importantly, save you from unnecessary stress. is a no brainer right?
I've put together a list of “kinda” tech tips that can make a real difference. I say “kinda” tech because actually they are sort of just THINGS you can do on your laptop that really make a huge difference, they aren’t big old new systems that you need an age to get going with. So here goes…
1. Get Serious About Your Digital Calendar
If you're not using a digital calendar properly, you're making life harder for yourself. It's not just about remembering appointments (although that’s a pretty key thing you don’t want to mess up); it's about structuring your day, blocking out time for focused work, and even scheduling breaks. Make it a non-negotiable part of your day to update and review your calendar. Trust me, it's a game changer.
If you can nail using a digital calendar properly you are already winning
2. Organise Your Files and Apps
A messy digital workspace is like a cluttered desk - it slows you down, and it leaves room for more errors. Spend some time organising your files into folders that make sense to you. Do the same with the apps on your phone. It might seem tedious, but the time you'll save not searching for things will add up and not only save time but save your headspace too.
3. Bookmark Like a Pro
How much time do you waste typing in website addresses or searching for that one website you stumbled upon weeks ago? Set up bookmarks in your web browser, and organise them into folders. Whether it's resources for your business, inspiration, or client work, having everything a click away makes SUCH a difference.
4. Use a Password Manager
Still using the same password for everything or keeping them in a notebook? It's time for a password manager. Not only does it keep your accounts secure, but it also means you only need to remember one password. Plus, many password managers can generate strong passwords for you, so you're not tempted to use "Fluffy1234" for everything. GAME CHANGER!
5. Set Up Email Templates
If you find yourself writing similar emails day in, day out, save yourself the headache and create templates. Most email platforms allow you to do this, and it can cut down your email time significantly. Personalise each one before hitting send, but let the template do the hard work.
